Headbangers Ball first aired on MTV on Wedsday, April 1, 1987. It was based on a Top 40 music videos of hair metal / glam metal. Before Headbangers Ball there was Heavy Metal Mania which was in 1985. It was hosted by Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. They showed alot of hair metal genre throught the 1980's and early 90's. Hair metal faded toward the beginning of the 90's when they started to play some grunge or what apeared to be called alternative rock now. It was a sad day in metal in 1994. MTV cancelled the show with out even warning anybody. MTV aired a show called Superock. Mostly showing the top 40 of alternative rock. The new headbangers ball will never be like the old days of the original headbangers ball.
